Welsh artist of the year noms open
Entries for this year's 10th Welsh Artist of the Year award are now being accepted, it has been confirmed.

All artists that were born in or are living and working in Wales are eligible to enter the competition, which provides winners with a prize of £2,000, split between the categories of painting, sculpture, photography, applied arts, printmaking, drawing and student.

Last year's winner, the Yorkshire-born Butetown-based photographer Tim Freeman, who is also a judge at this year's event, said: 'There's no doubt winning Welsh Artist of the Year opened doors for me.

'As a judge I will be looking for quality of the finished piece of work and how well the artist communicates their subject.'

Freeman's winning piece was of a pipeline cutting through a pastoral country scene, which judges felt was a poignantly thought-provoking image depicting man's impact on the environment.

The winner will be announced at an event in Cardiff on June 20th.
