New art academy opens in Yorkshire
Artists and arts organisations are to benefit from the opening of a new arts academy in Yorkshire.

The Artimelt Academy is a project supported by The Culture Company and aims to provide mentored group research trips to a range of inspirational events.

Peer group support for idea development will also be provided upon acceptance to the academy, along with a £1,500 development award.

The longer term aim of the Artimelt Academy is to help the arts sector in Yorkshire develop applications to digital and social media funds such as those of Channel 4's 4iP programme and The Wellcome Trust's Arts Award scheme and to contribute to the increasing digital capacity of the arts sector.

A representative from the Arts Council of England commented on the opening: 'Digital media technologies are affecting every aspect of our society, economy and culture.

'We can now connect with audiences in new ways, bringing them into a closer relationship with the arts and creating new ways for them to take part. Responding to this change will lead to the development of new business models, new networks and new forms of creativity.'
