Job seekers prefer local media
A poll has found that those looking for work prefer to look through local media for vacancies.

One-third of respondents said that looking through the advertising in local newspapers and other media outlets was their first port-of-call, the study by Continental Research found.

Similarly, 39 per cent of online job seekers said that they check the job advertising on the websites of their local newspapers first, before attempting to look through online employment boards such as Monster.

The marketing research was conducted on behalf of the Newspaper Society.

Speaking to advertising news source Media Week, Robert Ray, the group's marketing director, commented on the results: 'The Wanted Ads Jobs shows that local media is by far the most influential and widely used source for reaching public and private sector jobseekers in the UK.'

According to research by the Newspaper Society, local media reaches approximately 40 million print readers in the UK every week and 37 million online users per month.
