The Craft Matters initiative, run by the
Crafts Council, has reached its 6,000th member.
Launched in October last year, the initiative has this week been provided with its own
website and to mark both occasions, an event was held at the House of Lords on Tuesday (March 9th).
Since its inception, the initiative has had a huge amount of public support. Sir Terence Conran, Linda Barker (pictured) and choreographer Siobhan Davies CBE have all leant their support and were at the event alongside professional
craft makers.
Speaking at the event, Rosy Greenlees, executive director of the Crafts Council, said: 'Craft is part of the here and now
and if we and the people who have signed up and continue to sign up to Craft Matters have their way, it will be a significant part of the future too.'
It is hoped with the launch of the website that craft will reach a bigger audience, become more widely adopted and be seen as a viable career.
